Anders Goldfarb’s Ash Avenue is “an allegorical autobiography alluding to memory, experience and fate.” In 1988, Goldfarb started editing together photos that spoke to him about his own life, life in general, the surreal, and the visceral. After many years of editing, in 1999 Goldfarb completed Ash Avenue. His sequence of images is poetic, lyrical: Analogous compositions link disparate subjects, visual repetition elicits echoing recollection, shifting iterations of recurring themes organize images with a dynamic musicality.

Now based in New York City, Goldfarb was born in Brooklyn and raised in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens. Goldfarb received a B.A. in anthropology from SUNY Stony Brook in 1975, and a M.F.A. in photography from SUNY New Paltz in 1986.
